Miami Beach Commission Passes Resolution Cracking Down On Demonstrations

Miami Beach commissioners give unanimous approval to a resolution directing the administration "to implement in advance and enforce time, place and manner restrictions in order to regulate and control future protests and demonstrations to the fullest extent permitted by law."

This comes after two pro-Palestine demonstrations outside the Miami Beach Convention Center, one in December during Art Basel and the other this week during the Aspen Ideas: Climate conference.

There was another protest outside and inside Temple Emanu-El.

Mayor Stephen Meiner said, "I do believe that if it was any other group of people other than Jewish people, that these demonstrations would have been handled much differently."

Commissioner David Suarez even called it grounds for his firing.

Police Chief Wayne Jones fired back by saying 22 officers were there including four inside the synagogue.

Jone apologized to the mayor and each commissioner for not alerting them to the demonstration.
