Animal rights groups are calling out an event that happened over the weekend in Okeechobee.

Wayne Pacelle with Animal Wellness Action says 15,000 pigeons were brought from Texas to Florida so that people could shoot them.

"This is one of the most despicable forms of animal cruelty one can imagine."

The group, working alongside two others, got undercover video of the pigeon shoot at the Quail Creek Sporting Ranch, which they say is owned by Troy Link. He's the son of the original CEO of Jack Link's Meat Snacks.

In the video, the birds are released from boxes and shot while in the mid-air, then it appears to show teens picking up the dead or wounded pigeons and flinging them around.

Some injured pigeons are left to struggle, with no one rendering aid.

The activists are asking the Okeechobee County state attorney if the actions amount to a crime.
