A man wanted for impersonating a police officer is now behind bars. It started with 911 police dispatchers getting a call referring to a reckless driver. The caller identified himself as a police officer and advised he stopped the vehicle near Pines Boulevard and University Drive, in the city of Pembroke Pines. When the real cops arrived, they determined Davonte Thompson was using a stolen badge, and was not in fact a cop.
The department writes:
When Pembroke Pines Police Officers arrived, they determined that the caller – identified as 29- year-old Davonte Clyde Thompson – was not a police officer, and that he used a stolen police badge to illegally conduct the traffic stop. The police badge belonged to a retired sheriff’s deputy from the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana. Thompson was taken into custody and is being charged with False Personation of a Police Officer.
Since it is unknown if Thompson committed crimes of this nature in the past, we are asking the public to please contact law enforcement if they believe Thompson illegally stopped them.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Pembroke Pines Police Department at 954‐431‐2200, email to tips@ppines.com, or call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954‐493‐TIPS.
