Today, the FDA green-lighted Florida’s first-in-the nation drug importation program allowing the state to import cheaper prescription drugs from Canada.

Gov. DeSantis signed the plan into law in 2019 but was forced to sue the FDA to finally receive today's required FDA approval.

DeSantis estimates the program will save Floridians up to $150 million a year.

President Biden directed the FDA to work with states on importing prescription medications to lower costs for Americans while maintaining their safety.

As a condition, the FDA requires Florida to test the imported drugs to make sure they are authentic and to submit a quarterly report.

Although it is illegal, many people already buy some medicines from pharmacies in Canada or Mexico.
