The Martin County Schools superintendent says a principal who ordered that a student be strip-searched engaged in "misconduct in office, incompetency and willful neglect of duty."

That's what Superintendent Michael Maine says in a letter to Dr. Timothy Aitken, who participated in the search of a student while trying to locate a vape pen at South Fork High School in August.

The student was forced to remove his clothing down to his underwear.

Maine says he intends to recommend at Tuesday's school board meeting that Aitken get a reprimand and serve the remainder of the school year at the district office rather than at his school.
