Pompano Beach, FL - A 30-year-old Pompano Beach man has been arrested for allegedly installing hidden cameras in the bathrooms of multiple gyms across South Florida.
An investigation into the suspect, identified as Bernardo Santiago Lopez, began in September when a concealed camera was discovered under the sink in the handicap stall of the men's bathroom at the YouFit gym located at 4032 W Hillsboro Blvd in Deerfield Beach.
Following the discovery, the gym's regional manager directed staff to inspect other facilities, leading to the identification of additional cameras in Boynton Beach, Davie, and another Deerfield Beach location.
The WiFi-connected cameras reportedly contained images of at least 50 naked men, prompting an investigation by deputies from the Broward Sheriff's Office and officers in Boynton Beach.
Lopez was identified as the suspect and was arrested on November 3rd.
Gym records confirmed Lopez's visits to the YouFit locations, and video footage allegedly captured him setting up the hidden camera in Deerfield Beach.
Lopez is currently held at the Broward County Jail, with a warrant filed for his arrest in Palm Beach County.
During an interview with detectives, Lopez allegedly confessed to installing the cameras and expressed enjoyment in seeing men exposed in a naked state.
Lopez was given a $25,000 bond and will face further charges in Boynton Beach after his transfer from Broward County to Palm Beach County.
The Broward Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into the case.
