(Miami, Fla) - September ushers in Labor Day weekend and the peak of hurricane season.
But apparently there's another peak in activity during the month of October for South Florida, according to National Weather Service senior meteorologist Anthony Reynes.
Currently, the Gulf of Mexico is quiet and there are five systems swirling in the Atlantic, but Reynes says they will all stay out to sea thanks to the dominant high pressure over Florida. According to Reynes, the high-pressure dome deflects and steers low-pressure systems away from land.
Therefore, the high-pressure bubble both bakes South Florida and protects us from hurricanes. Reynes is predicting hot, sunny weather for your Labor Day weekend with storms likely firing up in the afternoon.
