A West Palm Beach police officer who died in a single-vehicle car crash last month is being laid to rest.

Sgt. Fernando DeSouza was off-duty, driving his marked patrol car in Boynton Beach on the early morning of July 28th.

Investigators say the 43-year old lost control of the wheel and crashed into a pole, causing the vehicle to burst into flames. The circumstances behind the crash are still under investigation.

The West Palm Beach Police Department put out an alert, notifying the community across Palm Beach County of multiple road closures Friday to make way for DeSouza's funeral procession.

The ceremony is private and a police spokesman says the family has requested no media attend or cover the service.

Road closures are expected between 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. and include:

The northbound and southbound I-95 exits to Southern Boulevard

Southern Boulevard at the Turnpike

Southbound, westbound Southern from U.S. One/Dixie Highway to State Road 7

Southbound State Road 7 to Hypoluxo Road

Southbound U.S. One/Dixie Highway from Jefferson Road to Southern Boulevard.

All cross streets between U.S. One/Dixie Highway from Jefferson to Southern, including Belvedere Road.

Use Belvedere Road and Forest Hill Blvd. as alternates.
