CANCELLED: National Night Out Against Crime Tonight

UPDATE: The event is cancelled due to inclement weather

Police officers from around the country have today, the first Tuesday in August, circled on their calendars every year for National Night Out.

This year is the 40th anniversary.

"It's just another good way for police and the community to talk and build better relationships and, you know, address any concerns that someone might have," says Miami-Dade Police Det. Luis Sierra.

All ten of its districts from Homestead to Miami Lakes are holding events.

Miami, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale Police are also organizing gatherings tonight with food, kids zones and safety tips.

Broward Sheriff's Office districts tend to hold events later in the year when it's cooler, but there's one tonight in Lauderdale Lake's Vincent Torres Memorial Park which includes a pickup kids versus cops basketball game.
