For a third straight year, the West Palm Beach GreenMarket has gotten top honors from readers of USA Today.

The publication selected 20 farmers markets from across the country, with West Palm Beach being the only one from Florida, then readers voted on the nominees. And they made The West Palm Beach GreenMarket number 1 again.

When we caught up with the city's community events supervisor Mary Pinak last year, she spoke about one of the reasons she believes people love the event so much.

"The view that we have from our GreenMarket. People love to come down, the breeze off the Intracoastal. They bring their dogs. It really is a extremely pleasant experience."

She also cites the vendors, which will jump again this year to 125, from 110 last year.

The West Palm Beach GreenMarket started in 1995 and grew from there.

Pinak says the event wasn't always the place for the community to be on Saturday mornings.

"We started with 13 vendors in a parking lot and the truth is that we had no produce vendors that first market. We had to go to our local grocery store and buy out their produce and resell it for that first market."

The GreenMarket starts back up in October but the city is hosting pop-up Mini markets on Thursday nights through August, during its Clematis By Night live music event.
