Florida's Controversial Immigration Law Takes Effect Saturday

Advocates are speaking out ahead of Florida's new immigration law taking effect Saturday. State Representative Dotie Joseph of North Miami Beach says this law will make it more expensive for Floridians to live because of the expected work force shortages in the tourism, agriculture and hospitality industries. The new law requires private companies with over twenty-five employees to use E-Verify to prove legal employment eligibility. It penalizes employers who knowingly hire immigrants and requires hospitals that accept Medicaid to document whether or not a patient is a United States citizen.
