A case involving an off-duty jail deputy accused of shooting a woman stretches three counties.

31-year-old Wilner Cyprien works for the Martin County Department of Corrections and the Indian River County Sheriff says he committed the crime in his county on Wednesday.

Eric Flowers says it appears that Cyprien shot the victim multiple times outside her apartment over a love triangle situation.

"He believed that his girlfriend was cheating on him and he believed that in shooting this person that he would exact revenge in this case."

The woman arrived home to find Cyprien in her apartment and when she tried to drive away, Sheriff Flowers says the deputy shot her.

The man was caught by St. Lucie County deputies after leading them on a chase while holding a gun to his head.

Cyprien is in jail there, waiting to be brought to Indian River to face charges.

Meanwhile, the victim is hospitalized in stable condition.
