Miami-Dade Looking To Preserve Its History

Miami-Dade residents can make history this weekend with the county is holding its first history collaborative at the Main Library's auditorium tomorrow.

"It's all about capturing the memories and stories of our residents to help tell the story of Miami-Dade County," says Miami-Dade Historic Preservation Chief Sarah Cody.

The program teams up Cody's Office of Historic Preservation with the Miami-Dade Public Library System and the HistoryMiami Museum, and from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. residents can bring photos, news articles, memorabilia and other items to be digitized by the library.

They can also record their stories in the History Miami Museum's mobile recoding booth.

"It's critical to engage, you know, all generations, really, the older generations before we lose their memories and their stories, and the younger generation so we can get people interested

A preserving our heritage," adds Cody.ll will be stored in digital archives and help preserve Miami's relatively young but unique history.
