Winter Haven, FL - A man stole a police car with a K-9 inside and crashed it into multiple vehicles after burglarizing a Florida Amscot.
Winter Haven Police Department reported that 21-year-old Menylek Jarrett stole a police car with a K-9 inside after burglarizing an Amscot store in Winter Haven.
Police received a call about a burglary at Amscot around 9:20 a.m. Saturday morning.
Three employees reported that a man had thrown a rock through the front glass door.
The suspect then threw another rock at the teller glass and attempted to enter the teller area before fleeing.
Police officers entered the business to investigate, but did not realize that the suspect, Jarrett, had already fled the scene.
Jarrett broke the driver’s side window of a nearby patrol vehicle and jumped into it, where a K-9 was present.
Jarrett drove off in the stolen police car, crashing into several other vehicles, before abandoning the car and running away.
Police caught up with Jarrett, and after being tasered, arrested him.
One person from a vehicle that Jarrett crashed into was hospitalized with head pain, but the K-9 was unharmed.
Jarrett faces charges of burglary of a business, grand theft of a vehicle, and leaving the scene of a crash with injury.
