Woman Arrested in Key West for Misusing 911 and Biting an Officer

Key West, FL - A Seattle woman is facing multiple felony charges after misusing 911 and biting a police officer in Key West.

According to authorities, Maya Aleasa Goldsmith was arrested for misusing emergency services and biting an officer following an obscenity-laced tirade at a city employee who asked her to leave a bathroom.

Police say the incident happened in Mallory Square around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning when Goldsmith refused to leave the bathroom when asked, becoming aggressive and argumentative, shouting profanities at a city employee.

Thursday's situation began when the employee asked Goldsmith to vacate the bathroom after being inside it for over an hour.

The city employee flagged down Key West police, who witnessed Goldsmith yelling obscenities towards the worker.

The officers gave Goldsmith several warnings, but she interrupted the officer and cursed him out.

Police told Goldsmith to stop because of children and tourists in the area, but she ignored their requests.

Goldsmith provided officers with her ID, before snatching the card from the officers and telling them, “you can kiss my [expletive].”

As officers were preparing to leave, Goldsmith called 911 while standing feet away from them.

When the officers told Goldsmith that calling 911 without a legitimate emergency was a crime, she responded, “I don’t care, f--- you," before being arrested for misusing 911.

As an officer attempted to pat Goldsmith down for weapons, she resisted and threatened to fight him, then kicked and bite one officer while hitting another with her elbow.

She was taken into custody on two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, one count of resisting arrest, and another count of misusing 911.

According to jail records, Goldsmith also faces misdemeanor resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charges.

She is set to be arraigned in Monroe County court on May 26th.
