Drivers along Australian Avenue in West Palm Beach got quite the sight Monday evening.
Police were notified of an alligator headed down the road near 45th Street.
CBS 12 News captured video of the encounter after officers contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which sent over a trapper to wrangle the 6-foot gator But not before traffic was delayed as the reptile decided to cross the street.
The West Palm Beach Police Department posted pictures and referred to the alligator as a "wayward jaywalker" as they pointed out that Australian Avenue was closed temporarily.
The gator was eventually captured and traffic went back to normal.
The area is near a canal and Lake Mangonia.
FWC reminds you of their Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR. That's 866-392-4286.
The agency also reminds Floridians to keep small pets away from lakes and canals after an 85-year old woman was killed by an alligator as she walked her dog along a canal bank in Fort Pierce back in February.
