Travel editor Peter Greenberg says since the airport had been closed since Wednesday, it's going to take time to get operations moving smoothly again. He estimates things should be smoother by late tomorrow morning, but it could take days for stranded passengers to get rebooked on flights.

As for Fort Lauderdale itself, the city is still dealing with flooding. Nearly two dozen vactor truck have been dispatched to pump out standing water from neighborhoods and crews are surveying the severity of damage.

Mayor Dean Trantalis and Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie provided an update this afternoon.

Fort Lauderdale and east Hollywood aren't the only cities feeling the effects of Wednesday's record rain.

Some Dania Beach neighborhoods still have waist deep water in them.

City Manager Ana Garcia says their vac and pump trucks have been working nonstop but realizes it hasn't been enough, that's why "we're expecting vac trucks and pump from the City of Miami Beach that are going to be arriving here in Dania Beach to help our residents."

She admits it could still take three to five days for some of these neighborhoods to dry out, depending how quickly they can get more resources in to pump out and dispose of the water.

Residents who need to report a non-emergency, they can call 954-924-6800 ext 3606.
