A new day dawns in Broward as Earlean Smiley is expected to officially begin her term as interim Superintendent. School Board member Brenda Fam is hoping this puts an end to all the drama and gets the district back on track. Smiley negotiated a 300-thousand-dollar salary, if the board approves it she starts immediately. The retired district administrator replaces Dr. Vickie Cartwright who was fired in a surprise vote that was later rescinded before she was forced out for good. Smiley will take the reigns until a permanent superintendent is selected; she's not allowed to apply for the job.
