Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz Brings South Florida Guest To SOTU

A Hallandale Beach woman forced to travel to Washington, D.C. to get a medically needed abortion returns to the nation's capitol today as a guest of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz for the State of the Union. 44-year-old Anabely Lopes decided to have an abortion last year at fifteen weeks and one day pregnant when she got the results of her genetic testing confirming her pregnancy was not viable. Florida law bans abortions after 15 weeks, but Lopes was granted a medical exemption. She says she could not find two doctors to sign off on it because they were scared they would be sued. Republicans in both chambers say they're considering reducing Florida's ban to 12-weeks this legislative session.
