Retiring police sergeant denounces department in scathing radio farewell

Miami, FL - South Florida police are reviewing an incident after a police sergeant aired her grivenaces over the police radio about her department and it's chief while announcing her retirement on Thursday.

According to reports, 33-year veteran Sgt. Marilin Garcia announced her retirement over the police radio on Thursday, something that is routine for an officer to do upon making the decision to retire.

However, Sgt. Garcia used the oppertunity to express her grievances publicly over the police radio and called out the department's chief and her immediate supervisors for their negative impact on the department and its morale.

Sgt. Garcia also expressed frustration at being a female in a male-dominated department.

City of Miami Commissioner Manolo Reyes said Thursday that an investigation into the issues raised by Garcia would involve internal affairs, although he takes issue with how those grievances were voiced publicly.

The Miami Police Department is currently reviewing the incident, and have made no comments at this time.
