Palm Beach County leaders are bracing for the effects of Tropical Storm Nicole. County Mayor Robert Weinroth addressed new Floridians and snowbirds who are typically not around to weather a hurricane.

"We're built for this. And so we're going to be watching this very carefully. Our new residents and our seasonal residents who haven't experienced this before should be taking proactive measures to prepare but not panic."

Palm Beach County's administrator urged residents who are considering leaving to do it right away. She said those who choose to stay should hunker down.

There will be power outages.

That's the word from FPL CEO Eric Silagy as he addressed Palm Beach County residents at the same update. He says the ground is saturated already.

"We fully expect that this storm will result in a lot of trees that will either fall over or you will see tree branches coming down because a lot of the vegetation that is still standing has been weakened from Ian and other previous storms."

Silagy says there are 13,000 Florida Power and Light workers and contractors ready to get to work when needed.

County leaders are holding another update on Nicole Tuesday afternoon.
