A local law enforcement leader says he's stepping down next week.
Boynton Beach Police Chief Michael Gregory hosted a community forum last month, on the same day that an officer was cleared of wrongdoing by the Florida Highway Patrol in a chase that ended in the death of a 13-year old dirt bike rider who crashed while going 85 miles per hour.
"We're here. We're gonna stay here. We're willing to listen and we're willing to change if there's something that's not doing right."
One thing that's definitely changing is Gregory leaving the post, effective this Friday, April 22.
He claims he wants to take time to "increase attention and focus on other areas of his life."
After that forum, a spokesman for the family of Stanley Davis III said they didn't get the information they wanted.
"And to come to this meeting and not get clear answers to what is going on, even after an investigation from the FHP, is just a slap in the face."
The department's internal affairs division is investigating whether Officer Mark Sohn violated any policies during that pursuit. The Davis family has hired prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who claims Sohn has been involved in other chases that resulted in the deaths of other African Americans.
Three city commissioners have asked the Sheriff's Office to prepare a proposal on a law enforcement merger.
But none of this is mentioned in Gregory's announcement from last Friday, in which he notes how proud he is of the "many accomplishments achieved with the outstanding women and men" in the agency during his nearly 4-year tenure.
The city manager thanked him for his service and says she wishes him "nothing but great success in his future."
