Employees of the city of Delray Beach who are not vaccinated for COVID-19 have missed a deadline to avoid weekly testing.
That was Monday and next week the city is poised to pass a plan to give $500 hazard pay bonuses to about 180 workers in the Utilities and Parks and Rec departments.
While the proposal deals with only non-union employees, Deputy Vice Mayor Adam Frankel says he wants it expanded to all city staff.
“I know there was some pushback from those who may not qualify saying, ‘Hey where’s our money?’ So we want to do what’s right. We want to be fair. To me, I think anyone that’s been vaccinated or would get vaccinated who is an employee here in our city, let's give them 500 bucks.”
This comes as a number of companies are enforcing policies to encourage more employees to get vaccinated.
