Miami-Dade Commissioners To Appoint District 8 Commissioner Today

A big day in Miami-Dade. Commissioners are holding a special meeting at noon today to appoint a District 8 commissioner to fill the seat vacated by Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava. The issue of the appointment has been contentious between the 7 commissioners who voted for it and the 5 who wanted a special election. Commissioner Raquel Regalado voted for an appointment, saying an election would have cost 1-million-dollars and the appointee will be able to run to retain the seat. There are 8 candidates vying for the title-including attorney Danielle Cohen Higgins who has raised the most money. Others include former Cutler Bay Mayor Peggy Bell, former state senator Dwight Bullard and Key Biscayne Police Chief Charles Press.
