Jeff Bezos' Father Honored At Statue of Liberty's New Museum

Miguel Angel Bezos at the age of 16 came to Miami in 1962 from Cuba as part of Operation Peter Pan.

He only spoke Spanish and was all alone.

In the video, Jeff Bezos says that his grandfather owned a lumber mill and the Cuban government was "nationalizing businesses and everything was changing."

His family sent him to the U.S. because they felt like they had to protect him.

Miguel Bezos spent 3 weeks in Miami at a refugee camp before he moved to Wilmington, Delaware and enrolled in high school.

He received a scholarship to the University of Albuquerque in New Mexico, which is where he met Jeff Bezo's mothere, Jacklyn.

Though Miguel is not Jeff's biological father, he raised him.

The full video of how Miguel Bezos came to the U.S. is available to watch on Amazon.com.

Miguel Bezos was honored with a Liberty Star as part of the new National Museum of American History opening.
