Florida News That Impact You – January 14th, 2021

Your recap of some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.

The news regarding COVID-19 infections improved a bit on Wednesday as the state reported under 14,000 new infections and the weekly average trend declined for the first time since Christmas. On a related note, for the second day in a row, Florida had its best day for vaccinations as efforts to expand vaccinations throughout the state ramp up this week. Just over 49,000 immunizations with a first dose took place with an additional 11,000 Floridians receiving a second and final dose of a COVID vaccine. The Florida Department of Health’s tracker now shows 646,327 Floridians have received at least a first dose of a COVID vaccine.

Florida’s congressional delegation in the House of Representatives split along party lines regarding the impeachment of President Trump. All Democrats voted to impeach the President, while all Republicans voted against it.

Zoo Miami is expanding its animal conservation efforts with a new interactive experience set to open Saturday. The five-year project has been completed due mostly to private donations including support from FPL. Also happening at Zoo Miami, COVID-19 vaccinations. The county made the announcement on Wednesday and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said, "We will not be testing there. There will be just one way in and one way out”.
