Poaching is a crime, and that includes cicadas.
The Wisconsin State Department of Natural Resources has put out a warning that it’s illegal to harvest cicadas at the Big Foot Beach State Park.
The department says it’s gotten multiple reports of people harvesting the insects at the park, and it’s been a bumper crop this year.
Walworth County is a hotspot for cicadas in Wisconsin. State law prohibits capturing and removing any animals from state parks, including insects.
No information was given for why anyone wants to kidnap cicadas, but it’s a thing.
