Marlin's Puk struggles in 1st Major League Start

Marlins lose tonight's game against the Pirates 7-1 and will start 0-2 for the 2024 season.

In A.J. Puk's first Major League start he allowed 4 earned runs along with 6 walks in just 2 innings for the Marlins. After a successful 2023 with a 3.97 ERA, 56.2 innings, and 15 saves from the bullpen.

In a great relief appearance to help save the bullpen. Bryan Hoeing replaced Puk in the 3rd and pitched 4 innings while only allowing one run. Marlins will not have a day off until next Friday in St. Louis, in the first two game the bullpen has already recorded 14 IP.

Jake Burger had the lone RBI with a single in the 3rd inning scoring Luis Arraez. Marlins had their opportunities to come back in the 3rd with the bases loaded but Jazz grounded out to first to end the inning. Again, in the 5th with runners on the corners and 1 out, the Marlins came up short. The 2023 NL Batting champion Luis Arraez was held hitless for the 2nd consecutive game and 0-9 overall to start 2024. The Marlins also grounded into 4 double plays in Game 2 of 4 vs the Pirates.

Jazz Chisholm went 0-3 tonight, but he does look comfortable in center to start the season. He had another fantastic diving catch in tonight's game.

The Marlins will face the Pirates for game 3 Saturday, March 30, at 4:10pm. Marlin's Radio Pregame begins at 3:40pm. Catch the Game on Fox Sports 940 or locally on the IHeartRadio App
