A slice of cake, freshly-baked pies, and baskets of bread immediately bring to mind the humble bakery. While every bakery looks different and sells different offerings, they all have that special something that makes them stand out, whether it's unique flavors or an enticing concept.
For those who enjoy visiting bakeries, Yelp recently released a list of every state's top bakery. Yelp Elites, a group of writers, photographers, and travelers who highlight local businesses, compiled the list based on these criteria:
"We identified businesses in the bakery category on Yelp, with a large concentration of five star Elite reviews. This list looked at businesses in the United States. All businesses were marked open on Yelp as of January, 24, 2024. When available, all businesses on this list have a passing health score as of January, 24, 2024."
Fireman Derek's Bake Shop & Cafe was declared the best bakery in the Sunshine State. Former Miami firefighter Derek Kaplan's love of desserts inspired him to start this business, which now has two locations in Miami and one in Fort Lauderdale. The small chain's pies captured the hearts of customers early on, but many say their cakes and cookies are equally delicious.
Yelper Cat N. gave a glowing review of Fireman Derek's sweet treats:
"Fireman Derek sure knows how to make a pie... I've been to their other bake shop but this was my first time at this one. This location is much bigger with plenty of places to sit and enjoy your treat. They are known for pies but they also have ready made cakes, shakes, and ice cream. Their popular pie is their key lime pie. I personally love their banana pie which has a nice chocolate house made crust. Each slice is a large piece and is definitely shareable. And this location has a free parking lot on the side. I cannot wait to come back and try their other goodies."
