Florida’s Voter Registration by Party

Florida’s Voter Registration by Party

Bottom Line: The Florida Division of Elections’ latest voter registration update is in reflecting all voter registrations as of the start of July. A surge of voter registrations took place last month, as new voters registered, and in some cases reregistered under new parties, ahead of Florida’s August primaries. As a reminder, Florida’s a closed primary state, meaning that one must be registered to a political party in order to participate in a specific party’s primary elections. In addition to being the largest month for new voter registrations of the year, it was also the first month in which one of the two major political parties registered more voters than those not affiliated with a political party.

These are the changes in year-to-date voter registration information:

  • DEM: -116767 (+8,908 last month)
  • GOP: +71,046 (+37,502 last month)
  • NPA/Other: +60,604 (+15,267 last month)

The current breakout of registered voters looks like this...

  • DEM: 34.8%
  • GOP: 36.1%
  • NPA/Other: 29.1%

The Republican voter registration advantage over Democrats is now 202,321 voters. That’s an advantage which grew by an additional 26,410 voters over the past month alone. For comparison's sake, Democrats held a 97,215-voter advantage coming out of the 2020 Election Cycle. This supports the notion that Florida’s increasingly moving from being a purple state into a red-state territory and just in time for what’s shaping up to be a historically good midterm election cycle for Republicans.
