Miami Beach voters heading to the polls today to decide if they want a city-wide last call for alcohol at 2 a.m. South Beach hospitality workers have been holding rallies against the referendum which they claim would cost businesses 227-million dollars a year, leading to thousands of layoffs. The ban is supported by Mayor Dan Gelber who wants to rebrand the Entertainment District from an all-night, chaotic party scene into an art and cultural center. Gelber is seeking a third term against four first-time candidates who all oppose the ban. Mayoral races are also on tap in Miami, Hialeah and Homestead.
