Miami Mom Charged After Toddler Left Abandoned At Local Hospital

A toddler is now in state custody after being abandoned at Mercy Hospital. This all began Tuesday morning when 33-year-old Carolina Viscarra handed her 2-year-old to an off-duty, plain clothed officer saying she had to use the restroom-before fleeing. Police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat says the officer put a lookout out for Viscarra who later returned to the hospital saying she had nowhere to sleep and wanted to keep her daughter safe. Viscarra is charged with child abandonment and is being held on 5-thousand-dollars bond, her daughter is in custody of the Department of Children and Families. Florida's safe harbor law ONLY applies to children up to 7 days old left in a designated safe space.
