A South Florida man was booked into jail after authorities learned he was impersonating a law enforcement officer, according to NBC 2.

On Sunday (August 1), witnesses told Lee County Sheriff's deputies that a man caused a disturbance at a supermarket on Palm Beach Boulevard before fleeing on a moped. Authorities identified the man as 33-year-old Sean Haynes of Davie, Florida.

Deputies said they pulled Haynes over shortly after the disturbance, and that's when the man allegedly claimed he was an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Haynes even showed deputies a false badge number with identification, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities confirmed the suspect wasn't an FBI agent and arrested him. They also learned he had a warrant out of Broward County for trespassing. He was booked into Lee County Jail.

“Impersonating an officer does not sit well with the men and women that actually wear a badge,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “My team of dedicated deputies took care of business and put this criminal in jail.”

Many people have tried to pose as authorities or official figures to get out of trouble. Two men tried to trick hotel employees in Florida by dressing up as U.S. Marshals earlier this year.
