Florida News That Impact You – April 13th, 2021

After a month-long trend in the increase in COVID-19 cases, the Florida Department of Health reported better news on Monday. Only 1,613 new cases were reported, the lowest daily total since October 12th. As for vaccines, 7.3 million Floridians have now been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes over 4.4 million people who’ve now completed the vaccine schedule. 

The Biden administration released a summary document on Florida’s proposed projects based on the proposed infrastructure plan. While light on details, the two-page summary outlined twelve areas of proposed projects ranging from traditional bridge and road projects to the creation of carbon capture facilities. 

Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation produced a report showing an overwhelming majority of property insurance lawsuits nationally are within Florida. According to the report, 8% of property insurance policies are in Florida, however, 76% of all property insurance lawsuits nationally involve Florida policies. Florida’s property insurance rates are the highest nationally, and the report illustrates disproportionate litigation costs are contributing significantly to policy costs.
