Palm Beach County Democrat Challenged By Republican For Her Senate Seat

Florida Senate, District 31 is in our Election Spotlight, brought to you by Air Around the Clock.

Democrat Lori Berman served 8 years in the Florida House, before being elected to this Senate seat in 2018. She won a special election against Republican Tami Donally, who is challenging her again this time around.

Berman says she's been responsible for bringing millions of dollars back to Palm Beach County.

"We've brought projects for water. We've brought projects for transportation. We've brought projects for criminal justice, particularly a rehab center in Pahokee that I've been getting funding for I think for the last three or four years."

Even as a member of the minority party in Tallahassee, Berman says she's been very successful in getting bills passed.

But Donnally says that because the Republicans hold the majority in the Senate and the governor is a Republican, she can do even more.

"I feel like the people here in Palm Beach County are being neglected. I feel like we're not getting all that we could get if we had Republican representation in Tallahassee that could be that conduit between the two parties to help get Palm Beach County more of what it deserves in Tallahassee."

Donnally and her husband run a local Christian school.

Florida Senate terms are typically 4 years, but Berman says that because of reapportionment in 2022, whoever wins this election will only have a two-year term.
