Here's a recap of some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.
The fewest new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Florida Department of Health on Monday, just over 1,800, since June 15th. The weekly average of cases now stands at 3,000. Florida’s positivity rate stands just below 6%. Independent physicians, rather than medical examiners, will be certifying all COVID-19 related deaths in Florida going forward. This comes as the medical Examiners Commission stated the high caseload has resulted in backlogs throughout the state. Medical examiners will still be able to question the physician's analysis for the cause of death if deemed necessary.
In other news, President Trump is set to visit Jupiter today with Everglades Restoration and environmental policy the key focus of the visit. President Trump’s budget calls for $250 million in annual funding for the completion of the Everglades Restoration Project. Lastly, Palm Beach County enters a partial phase 2 reopening today with bowling alleys, movie theaters, and related daytime entertainment venues being allowed to operate for the first time since lockdowns began. Bars, nightclubs, and related “nightlife” venues are still closed.
