Miami's Assistant Chief of Police Targeted by Crooks

Credit card crooks clone the Assistant Chief of the Miami Police Department's credit card.

Assistant Chief Manuel Morales announced today he was recently targeted by a pair of credit card thieves.

According to Morales, he received a text notification that mentioned suspicious activity on his Visa credit card.

One charge was processed at the Bed Bath & Beyond at 3301 Coral Way at 7:41 p.m. and the other was made at a PetSmart next door less than 10 minutes later..

Morales had his credit card in his possession during those times and was nowhere near the stores.

Detectives with the economic crimes unit obtained surveillance video from the two stores that shows a man and a woman using the cloned cards.

"We're not immune to being victims just because we wear the badge," Morales said.

Anyone with information about their identities, contact the Miami Police Department at 305-603-6280. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
