Zebra Shot and Killed by Owner in Florida

A Florida man is under investigation for his shooting his injured zebra.

The incident happened in the 6000 block of Iris Boulevard in Callahan, north of Jacksonville.

Nassau County Sheriff officials said the man shot and killed his exotic pet because it was injured after escaping a confined pen. Neighbors told police the animal came from the nearby Cottonwood Ranch.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the zebra's owner did not have a proper license to own the animal.
