Florida Legislative Session - Insurance Transparency & Sanctuary Cities

Here's the daily recap of some of the notable developments from Florida’s session. So, let’s get to it.

On Wednesday:

  • The Senate Ethics and Elections Committee passed the bill that placed a proposed constitutional amendment on next year’s ballot raising the threshold to passage to 66.7%.
  • The Senate Committee on banking and insurance unanimously passed a bill 1180. Which would mandate more transparency about what is and isn’t covered by home insurance policies.
  • A House proposal of a “sanctuary cities” bill that would specifically hold local law enforcement accountable, not just local governments, for not adhering to federal authority over immigration matters passed on a party-line vote.
  • The House passed a 2.75% spending increase per student for 2019-2020 school year and the State Senate passed a 4.71% increase per student.
