Day 8 Florida Legislative Session - Family Empowerment Scholarship

I’m doing a daily recap of some of the notable developments from this year's legislative session. Here are some Highlights from Tallahassee.

On the eighth day, The House Education Committee passed a bill creating a new voucher program. The Family Empowerment Scholarship program that would enable families of four earning up to $77,250 per year to participate in the upcoming school year with the threshold rising to $96k+ in future years. This version goes much further than the state Senate proposal. Also, the Senate committee passed legislation that would redefine the threshold for felony theft as $750 or greater. The current threshold in Florida is $300.
