Former Margate Commissioner Found Guilty of Public Corruption

Former Margate city commissioner David McLean was accused of using his influence as an elected official to secure political favors for his landlord’s bar located on State Road 7 in Margate. The 56-year-old was taken into custody on Monday after the jury returned its verdict inside a Broward County courtroom. McLean was found guilty of seven criminal charges February 5 th. The jurors convicted McLean of one count of bribery by a public servant, two counts of unlawful compensation, three counts of official misconduct and one count of theft. All seven charges are felonies. He is scheduled to appear for his sentencing March 12 th . He could face four years in state prison.
