It would have been an innocuous conversation about apples in the produce section, but while the supposed male shopper entertained the victim, his accomplice unzipped her purse and took her wallet.
This distraction theft took place on January 10 at the Publix at 4567 Weston Road in Weston. When the victim was at the checkout, she realized her wallet was missing. She traced back her steps that day and upon reviewing surveillance video with Publix staff, they saw the theft unfold.
The video showed clear images of the two suspects as they arrived at the grocery store just after 2 p.m. The two are seen walking around the produce section before zeroing in on the victim and carrying out the theft.
One suspect is a tall thin male with faded dark hair, a beard and goatee, seen wearing a black shirt, camouflage shorts and a jean jacket with the word “Future” in white letters on the sleeves. His accomplice appears to be a heavy-set male and is seen wearing a blue and white checkered shirt, white shorts, a khaki scarf and a blue and gray cap.
Anyone who can identify the suspects or has information about the theft is asked to contact BSO Detective Michael Kravecz at 954-626-4006.
