The family of a Hallandale Beach woman who vanished during a birthday trip to Costa Rica has identified her body after it was discovered partially buried and covered with plastic bags. Her brother Carlos says she checked in for her flight home, but never showed up.
The head of the country's Judicial Investigation Department says the cause of death is head trauma. 32 year old Bismarck Espinosa Martinez, a security guard at the property who was staying next door to Stefaniak is under arrest after police say he made contradictory statements during questioning.
Tracker dogs discovered the body outside the Airbnb she was staying in after detectives found blood inside the apartment.
Stefaniak had been missing since November 27.
