Authorities say a grandmother who was struck by a car early Tuesday while walking her grandson to school has died of her injuries.
Witnesses told police a white Chrysler 300 ran a red light at Miramar Parkway and Fairmont Avenue about 9 a.m. and struck Marie St. Vil, 79, and her 13-year-old grandson, Edwin St. Vil, as they were crossing the parkway using the crosswalk.
Paramedics took Vil and Edwin to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
Vil died a short time later, police said.
Edwin said he suffered a broken foot, along with bumps and bruises.
The driver stayed at the scene after the crash, police said.
Police said charges were pending.
