Bee experts in Southwest Florida say Red Tide and blue-green algae could be hurting the bee population.
Keith Councell, vice president of the Lee County Farm Bureau, told the "Fort Myers News-Press" that bee hives near areas affected by the algae blooms are weaker, and the bees are lethargic.
Councell also owns a farm that has five-hundred hives in Lee County.
This comes a year after flooding from Hurricane Irma destroyed hundreds of Southwest Florida bee hives.
Bee experts are trying to get funding for a scientific study to determine for sure whether the algae blooms are hurting the bees.
