Lake Okeechobee's Flood Gates Open Once Again

The federal government is opening Lake Okeechobee's flood gates again.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to increase discharges to the St. Lucie River by more than 200 million gallons per day.

Claiming the lake's levels are too high, for two weeks, an average of nearly a billion gallons of water will be discharged from the lake each day.

That's enough to fill nearly 1,500 Olympic-sized swimming pools!!!

Water releases this summer are being blamed for algae blooms.
