DEP Grants $3 Million To FL Counties For Red Tide Relief

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is providing an additional three-million dollars in grant funding to assist Gulf Coast communities impacted by red tide.

The DEP has already committed 750-thousand dollars to Manatee County, 190-thousand dollars to Collier County, and nearly 100-thousand dollars to Sarasota County.

Last week, Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency because of red tide.

The toxic algae bloom is blamed for killing sea life, causing respiratory problems in humans, and hurting tourism in Southwest Florida.
