FIU Grad Student Going To Federal Prison For Role In Hacking Scheme

A former Florida International University grad student is going to federal prison for his part in a computer hacking and money laundering scheme.

Back in 2012, authorities say Raymond Uadiale and a co-conspirator in London ran an operation that used "ransom-ware" to freeze computers remotely and demand cash payments to make them work again.

Uadiale collected the ransom through online payments, netting about $40,000 in the scam.

The 41-year-old was sentenced to 18-months in prison.
