Miami Commission To Make MLS Stadium Decision On Wednesday

A developer working with the David Beckham team to turn Melreese Country Club into a Major League Soccer stadium, park, and commercial space promises Miami taxpayers won't have to pay to clean up the site.

In an interview with the Editorial Board of the "Miami Herald," local businessman Jorge Mas said he predicts it will cost about $35-million to remove the arsenic-tainted ash that was dumped there from the old incinerator.

Mas also said he's agreed to share a percentage of rent revenue with the city on top of $3.5-million in annual payments.

The city commission will decide on Wednesday if the Freedom Park proposal will go to the voters this fall.
