Southwest Ranches Crash Leave 2 People Hurt, 2 Horses Dead

Authorities say a truck struck two people riding horses Sunday in Southwest Ranches. 

According to police, the impact of the crash threw the riders from the horses and killed the animals.

A pickup truck struck an adult guide and a 9-year-old girl while they were on horseback along Griffin Road near Southwest 198th Terrace, police said. The driver of the pickup truck was allegedly distracted when he struck the horses.

Both horses died at the scene.

The human victims were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

According to authorities, both riders suffered life-threatening injuries. 

Traffic homicide detectives are now investigating the crash.

A stretch of Griffin Road was closed for nearly five hours during the police investigation.
